sunday allows customers to split bills any way they want. Here’s why it matters
When using sunday, customers can choose how they’d like to split the bill: divide it evenly, enter the exact amount they want to pay, or pay only for what they’ve had. And that’s why it matters.
You’re serving a table of six at your restaurant. They’re full, happy, and maybe a little tipsy. Now they’d like to go back home, but before they can do that, they need to pay the bill. And they’d like to split it.
That’s when the troubles begin for their waiter. They will need to pull out a calculator and divide the total (let’s say it’s something like £272.50) by 6.
Then they will have to use the payment terminal 6 times so everyone can pay what they owe. And after the sixth person has paid, inexplicably, there’s still £5.5 on the balance.
After a few awkward minutes, one of the guests ends up volunteering to pay the residual amount. It’s all such a waste of time!
With sunday, this whole episode is a thing of the past. Every table can split the bill and pay it in the blink of an eye: all they need to do is scan the QR code that’s right in front of them. And they can share it any way they want.
That’s a big plus for waiters too. Instead of losing 5 minutes trying to figure out who forgot to pay for their soda, they can spend more time pampering their customers.
Our mission here at sunday is making restaurant payment as smooth as possible. And in order to do that, the three following features are absolutely necessary.
1# Paying for what you’ve ordered
Listening to the feedback of our partner restaurants keeps us moving in the right direction. In the past few months, many restaurant owners have made the same request: “would it be possible to allow our customers to simply pick the items they want to pay for on the bill?”.
It was obviously a great idea. The kind of idea sunday needed to implement sooner rather than later.
And that’s exactly what we’ve done: if you’ve only had a green salad while your friends have feasted on a three-course menu, you can pick the item you’ve ordered and pay your share. You’ll be able to know exactly what you owe, down to the penny.
No more trying to solve complex equations because your customers want to pay for what they’ve eaten and not a penny more.
If someone has ordered deviled eggs, beef and a crème brulée, they can select the deviled eggs, the beef and the crème brulée on the bill and pay for just that. All they need to do is scan our QR Code. And they won’t have to ask the waiter for help.
Since its launch, this new feature has been widely used in restaurants. Customers love it, of course, and restaurant staff too.
Being able to split the bill by themselves massively improves the experience of your customers. Some of them see it as the main reason to use sunday. Short reckonings make long friends!
2# Splitting the bill evenly
When someone says “splitting the bill”, they often mean splitting it evenly. It’s the easiest solution, and the most obvious one for customers.
So we wanted to allow them to do just that: split the bill by two, three, four, or thirteen (but that would bring bad luck, thirteen guests are sitting around the table).
Imagine two old friends having lunch at your restaurant. They haven’t seen each other in a while and they’re happy to be reunited.
They order every item they like off the menu, they share several starters, a main course, a good bottle of wine and some dessert.
When the bill arrives, they both insist on footing the whole bill. After a heated debate, they finally land on a compromise: they’ll be splitting the bill evenly. Well, they’re in luck! It’s easier than ever to do just that with sunday.
All it takes is a few seconds for them to be able to:
Scan the QR Code, access a webapp and select the number of parts they’d like to divide the bill.
Enter the number of guests sitting around the table.
Pay the bill and leave a tip.
If only some of the guests want to use sunday, it’s not a problem either. The remaining amount can be paid through traditional methods. It’s time-consuming and less practical, but to each their own!
3# entering the amount you’d like to pay
Last option: let your customers tell you how much they each want to pay.
Let’s say a father has booked a table to have dinner with his two daughters. He would like to buy them dinner, but one of the daughters insists on chipping in. By paying for the wine, for instance. But the father isn’t very keen on wasting time subtracting the exact price of the bottle of wine and would just like to pay a round figure. He says he’ll be paying £200 and he’ll let his daughter pay the remaining amount.
All they need to do is enter the amount the father will be paying, confirm, and validate the transaction.
This option was tailored for people who do not want to get into the nitty-gritty of who-ordered-what or who’d like to invite another guest. Paying a round figure is ideal if you want to split the bill without splitting hairs.
We’ve introduced all these features to make sure your customers have all their options open when paying their bills so they have everything they need when using sunday. Almost 35% of our current users choose to split the bill.
Every time they do, your staff spends less time doing math and more time pampering your customers. sunday allows your customers to avoid awkward conversations at the end of an otherwise delightful meal. Paying becomes a pleasant experience.
